Ford’s Theatre is where Lincoln died. The guy who killed him was John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln had a body guard but he wasn’t there. He was at the bar down the street. John Wilkes Booth put a piece of wood on the door so people couldn’t get in or out of the President’s box. So when he shot Lincoln, he knew the play very well because he watched it a lot. There was one part where this guy said a funny line and everybody laughs so no one would hear the gunshot. That’s when he went in and shot Lincoln. When he was done, he jumped onto the stage and broke his leg. He said something to the crowd and ran off.
They put Lincoln in the Peterson House across the street. They put him there because they didn’t want him to just die in the theatre. I thought we were going to see a real play, but it was just a ranger talking. By Lance Below: Lance is sworn in for his Jr. Ranger badge at Ford's Theatre.

First we went to the Visitor’s Center and we got our tickets. The ranger gave us a trading card. It was about history. The guy’s name was Lafayette. He was a French soldier and when the American’s didn’t have enough money for the war, Lafayette said to the French, “Americans need money” so the French gave the Americans money. The war was when the 13 colonies were trying to become their own country because England was bossing them around and giving them a lot of taxes. We got 24 trading cards each from rangers. We went to the Pennsylvania State House also known as the Independence Hall. They wrote the Declaration of Independence there. They also signed the Constitution. I bought my own Declaration of Independence and Lily bought an ink pen. I used her ink pen to sign my name on the Declaration of Independence. The Liberty Bell weighs 2, 080 pounds. The crack was a little tiny crack and they tried to fix it and they made it bigger. They rang it on George Washington’s birthday and other things. On his birthday they were going to ring it all day but only did for two hours because that’s when it got the crack and it ruined the tone. It represents freedom. The Liberty Bell went around the country and it took a few stops. People wanted to see it. It was after the Civil War. We went to the Mint. We just made it before closing. They were making coins but not dollar bills. I don’t know why. They have a big tape roll but it’s metal. It goes through a thing and it makes a blank coin. Then it goes in another machine and it goes so fast and so hard that you think it hits a 100 times but really it is just one. It hits it and it does the design, like Washington’s face. By Lance After the little fire, we were either going to stay in hotels or stay at Great Aunt Marice’s house. We decided to stay at Aunt Marice’s. She has two cats. A brown and white one named J-R and a black and white one named Abelardo. Abelardo was harshly treated when he was young. He had to have rabies shots because the owners before Aunt Marice let him try and catch mice in the barn but he wasn’t with his mother. For four days we went to NYC, the Big Apple. We went to the Statue of Liberty, to the top of the Empire State Building and also to Times Square. Whenever there is a small breeze, the torch and the right arm of the Statue of Liberty move about a foot. They closed off torch tours because the arm swayed. We wanted to go on a crown tour but the first crown tour available this year was in November. At Times Square there was a group of men who asked dad to help them in their show. They wanted to jump over him. It was a really long jump, about seven people that they jumped over. We went to a park that the creator built to look like a man.
